ASIA ROMERO

Tell me about your work as a model.

Asia: My work is currently separated by agency work and personal work. Agency work is appeal to designers, and bigger agencies. People who seek professional models go to my agencies website for that purpose, so my images have to be a representation of my skill. My personal work is showcasing who I am as a person. By collaborating with my friends, I get to experiment with simple concepts, and havemore of a care-free approach to creating.

What are you trying to FEED the world? (What do you want viewers to get from your work?)

Asia: Awesome question! I’m an advocate for self love and positivity. I have always been a super positive person, even in times when I probably shouldn’t have been (lol). Finding a light at the end of every tunnel starts with knowing you are good enough. Empowering people, especially black girls, with the notion that they are capable of giving love, receiving love. It takes strength and discipline to love oneself first.

I think most people assume that everyone is raised with the love they need to value themselves. I’ve seen other wise, therefore, I know it is something that needs to be addressed.

What do you EAT? (What influences you as an artist)

Asia: My peers inspire me the most! People who are figuring it out, meanwhile, creating. Taking risks and creating is one thing, but actually being good and show passion in what you do is another.I love seeing my peers win. They motivate me to move on my own terms, to create without judgement of self.

When did you decide, you wanted to be a model?

Asia: I decided I wanted to model after being apart of a modeling competition about 6 or 7 years ago. There were castings taken place in the mall and I thought, why not? I shot my shot and voila, I’m a signed model on the come up in life (lol).

Can you tell us what you are working on currently?

Asia: I am currently working on three different shoot concepts; one being agency work, the other two being personal. I will be starting 2018 with quality work that shows who I am!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Asia: In 10 years I want to be in a better space; mentally, emotionally, and financially. All aspects of my life should be well put together and under control by then, as much as possible. My work will have flourished so much, I can’t tell you how just yet.. but I know things are going to be amazing within the next 10 years.

What would you say to the kid in the classroom or at home who is being told that they can’t make money from being an artist of any kind?

Asia: I would give lil homie a history lesson on how Chirstopher Wallace played his teacher for telling him a similar scenario. Assuming lil homie knows who that is by the time I finish the story, he will be laughing in his teacher’s face and whoever else decides to say that to them.

What should we do as artist to make sure that our craft is taken seriously?

Asia: Quality and authenticity. Someone recently told me, “People connect to people.” Art is valuable, so are the prices. The only way people are going to take you serious is one of two things, one being clout, 2 being a personable connection between you, your art and the people.
