JAIANNA

Tell me about your work as an artist?

Jaianna: I’m a visual artist, I mostly paint but I dab a little in photography from time to time but I would solely say that I’m a painter. I express my love of blackness and love for self in my works. A lot of my latest work express embracing the evolution of yourself. We are constantly changing as individuals and I think we should all embrace the change whether its good, bad, it will shape you into what you want to become.

What are you trying to FEED your viewers? (What do you want viewers to get from your work?)

Jaianna: You are kings and queens, embrace your beauty.

What do you EAT? (What influences you as an artist)

Jaianna: The only way to create your future is to look at the past and what’s currently happening around you. So study a lot of historical art works and also what’s “trending” now, or what type of art people are gravitating towards. So I spend a lot of times in museums and scrolling on Instagram.

When did you decide, you wanted to be an artist?

Jaianna: I took on art professionally a year ago, to add more to my income. I’ve always sold small commissions on the side but never took it seriously until lately.

Can you tell us what you are working on currently?

Jaianna: 3D canvases

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Jaianna: Owning a gallery of my own and holding classes for the youth and also classes for aspiring visual artists.

What would you say to the kid in the classroom or at home who is being told that they can’t make money from being an artist?

Jaianna: Stay consistent, people will notice the hard work.

What should we do as artist to make sure that our craft is taken seriously?

Jaianna: Never undersell yourself. Know your worth.
