PHILLIP CHAE
Tell me about your work as an artist?

Phil: I am a watercolor artist and I enjoy painting animals, friends, and celebrities from Instagram. I enjoy painting self-portraits and showcase their personalities in the background!

What are you trying to FEED the world?
(What do you want viewers to get from your work?)

Phil: Out of all mediums there seems to be a lack of artist that use watercolor as their medium because they can’t make money compared to oil paint or acrylic artist. That motivates me because I want to break the stereotype that all watercolor artists can’t be taken seriously. Watercolor is a very difficult medium and I want viewers to see how beautiful watercolor can be.
What do you EAT? (What influences you as an artist)

Phil: Social Media, especially Instagram.

When did you decide, you wanted to be an artist?

Phil: I haven’t painted for three years since high school. Junior year in College I started painting again and realized how much I enjoyed painting and wanted to pursue to be an artist too.
Can you tell us what you are working on currently?

Phil: Currently I am working on a watercolor painting of a pug

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Phil: I’m not sure what I see myself doing in 10 years but hopefully I am doing something with my finance degree and still pursuing art.
What would you say to the kid in the classroom or at home who is being told that they can’t make money from being an artist of any kind?

Phil: I would tell them that time has changed. Social Media such as Instagram has made it easier for artist to expose their work to their audiences.

What should we do as artists to make sure that our craft is taken seriously?

Phil: Artist should explain and show case all the work that has been done to create the art piece
