FOUNDER: RYAN

Why did you create the crEATive platform?

Ryan: 2017 was one of the hardest years of my life. I ended relationships, I lost family members (R.I.P Uncle Bud and Domonique Posey), and I was trying to graduate college. I wanted the world to listen to me, so I decided to create a space for the world to not only listen to me but other artists who speak through their craft also.

This platform is about believing in yourself. It is much deeper than art. I’m trying to teach people that if you are happy with yourself everything will fall into place. That’s a message that every artist needs to hear at some point in their life.

Tell me about your work as an artist?

Ryan: My work is a progression of myself as a human being. I express myself in many different ways but my favorite way to express myself is through creative direction and photography. Capturing an image that passes in my brain when I think about my different experiences is a game that I started playing that I don’t want to stop.

What do you EAT? (What influences you as an artist)

Ryan: I eat life. Life is the muse that keeps changing. Life feeds me different experiences for me to write about and capture. Life is a tool that many of us tend to ignore but I choose to pay close attention to.

When did you decide you wanted to be an artist?

Ryan: I actually just acknowledged that I was an artist maybe a week ago. I know it sounds crazy but I don’t do photography work for the enjoyment of others. I make work for me and put it out as self-expression. I recently became comfortable with calling myself a creative director, photographer, art historian, and artist when people began asking about the work I posted on Instagram.  Basically, I never acknowledged myself as an artist until I became comfortable. So not too long ago.

Can you tell us what you are working on currently?

Ryan: I’m currently working on myself so that I can begin working on something new. I never know when I’m going to release new work because I don’t speak unless I have something to say. I will say that I will be collaborating with friends soon and I think you all will see an interesting product.

Time Complexity

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Ryan: I want to focus on creating a conversation in communities about the arts as a subject not an extracurricular activity. Art is sometimes belittled because of ignorance. I want to further the youths understanding on why the arts are important so that we don’t have to teach this to adults. I still see myself doing photography work but I’d rather not put pressure on myself by predicting the future. All that I can wish for is to be happy.

What would you say to the kid in the classroom or at home who is being told that they can’t make money from being an artist?

Ryan: Can money buy happiness? Do you believe in yourself? I know a lot of people who are well off and miserable because they can’t find their passion. If you have decided that a form of art is your passion then money will come. Believe in yourself and prove them wrong.

What should we do as artists to make sure that our craft is taken seriously?

Ryan: Take your craft seriously before you ask someone else to take your craft seriously. If your work isn’t being taken seriously then you are trying to please the wrong crowd. Make work that you can be proud of and protect it with your life. Above all, make your customers pay.
